Ppoor Carter was such a good boy while being cooped up in a car for 3 hours so after walking around the Nnauvoo temple we went to a park that was directly behind the temple, in fact you can actually see the temple in the background, and we played there for a little while, he especially loved the teeter totter...so did daddy! By the end of the day my feet hurt so bad, so I tucked my pants into the back of my shoes and daddy couldn't stop laughing.

Carter and Mommy
Here are some random pictures of Carter and I infront of a statue at the Nauvoo temple, infront of one of the original sunstones, infront of a wagon that the pioneers used to travel from Nauvoo to Uutah and the last one was one of my favorite spots, it was where the pioneers crossed the Mississippi river to escape from Nauvoo. Curtis and I watched a movie the other night, it was a movie about Bringham Young and the adversities he and other pioneers faced on the trek from Nauvoo to Utah. It was an incredible and very well done for a 1940's movie, in a scene in the movie it showed the pioneers crossing this frozen Mmississippi river in their wagons and while I was standing in that same spot I kept replaying that scene in my mind, how brave and faithful they must have been to be able to have done so many of the things that they did.

Carthage
After we spent the afternoon in Nauvoo, we went to Carthage, which is were Joseph Smith spent his last days. We were able to jump into the last tour of the day about 20 minutes into it. The spirit there was overwhelming, we were shown the holding cell that Joseph, his brother Hyrum and other saints were held, the walls and floors were all original and it was quite warm in there despite it being a very cool evening. Then they brought us into the warden's room (I thin k that was what it was called) this was the room that Joseph and Hyrum spent their last moments. The guide played a tape of a reinactement of that fateful night, I couldn't help but well up, the door that you see in the picture above is the original door and the hole was from the bullet hole that hit Hyrum. Ii can't describe how it felt to stand in that room, but I was consumed by the spirit, it was a wonderful experience that Ccurtis and I will always closely to our hearts.

Tomorrow we are going to Nauvoo and we are so excited to see the amazing church landmarks and learn more of the history of Nauvoo and the saints that once lived there. Sorry that we have not been posting pictures but our camera was packed on accident, but don't worry we plan on taking lots of pictures tomorrow and I will post about our experiences at Nauvoo very soon.

Curtis in Kansas

So my sweet husband left Tuesday morning to go to his BMW dealers in Kansas City, MO and in Kansas... Carter and I miss him like crazy, although today it felt as though daddy was with us because as we ventured out of the house and went for a four mile or so walk (I don't have a car yet, so I have to huff it everywhere, carter was in his stroller don't worry!)Curtis called me every 10 minutes or so and was saying that it was so beautiful in Kansas City, MO, then when he got to Kansas he called every five minutes and described the complete and utter nothingness of Kansas, he even made a comment that he is so thankful his parents never settled in Kansas... He was so bored on that two hour drive, it was pretty cute... then I just got so random calls ..asking, so whatcha doin?... He comes home tomorrow and I can't wait we miss him so much!

Live from MISSOURI... Yes it's us The Skousens!

Well everyone, it is official, We packed everything up yesterday and flew out this morning to our new home in Missouri and thus far, I LOVE IT! Everyone is so nice! When we were waiting for our shuttle I was watching as people were coming out of the airport and it was so weird... they were smiling!!!! Now maybe one wouldn't understand why this would be one of the first things I noticed about this state, but in New York... No one would smile and most had their faces buried in a blackberry or were in such a rush that their smiles were weighed by stress, or aka New York City living... As we drove to our new home, it was 3:00pm and in New York at that time we would have been stuck on the 495 that converts to a parking lot at that time, but here we zoomed right through traffic... We got into our home and it is BEAUTIFUL! I then went to the store and realized that as I was half way through the store was closing... I saw an associate and said I would hurry and get out of there and she responded by saying," No don't worry about it, get what you need first." In New York they would have kicked me out 5 till... Everyone is so nice here and they all have the cutest accents! It has only been a few hours and I already notice a difference in Curtis, his shoulders seem lighter and his smile is brighter than I have seen it in a while. So far we LOVE MISSOURI!!!
